The "Drys"
So who do we corkscrew collectors really have to thank for our "Kirby" corkscrews? Congress would not have passed the 18th Amendment if it had not been for the power of organizations such as the Anti-Saloon League and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (W.C.T.U.). In the absence of Prohibition, Kirby would not have found his character which personified it. And Bridgewater, Schuchardt, Halvorsen and Flauder would have no reason for their patent designs.
Prohibition gave us our "Kirby" corkscrews. What a price to pay!
