Verein Korkenzieherfreunde was founded in 1996 in Steinbach-Hallenberg, Germany. Founding members included fourteen from Germany; one each from Demark, the Netherlands, and Austria; and two from Switzerland. There are currently thirty members and the club is limited to that number. There is an annual meeting and the club newsletter is Der Krätzer.

Members are called Ziehers (German = pullers), the President is called Oberzieher (Top-Puller), the secretary is Schriftzieher (Words-Puller), and the treasurer is Geldzieher (Money-Puller).
