The Club Français du Tire-Bouchon was founded in 1996 by M. Gérard Bidault with four other collectors. Bidault started the club through a newsletter called L'Extracteur. The newsletter is currently published quarterly.

The CFTB currently has over 70 members worldwide. Annual meetings are held in France. Five members of the club serve on a Board of Directors.
