In 1886 Edward Thiéry and Charles Croselmire were granted an American patent for their "Article of jewelry and method of ornamenting the same." Designs were cut into the silver after it was electroplated to an object. Here is a magnificently decorated example of this art. The silver has been applied to an ivory handle with ornate floral design caps added to the end. There is fine detailing on all sections wrapping the handle and the silver is embossed with "Compliments Rochester Brewery" and a hand holding a glass of beer. It is from Rochester Brewery in Kansas City, Missouri. It is marked STERLING 5827 without a maker's mark. c.1900
