THE WINE FAIR

This poem was written by Robin Blackburne of Bermuda. Alban Hache from New Brunswick, Canada has written authorization to print it and has submitted it for your reading pleasure.

I had a dollar,
A crisp new dollar,
I took my dollar

To the World Wine Fair.
I wanted a CORKSCREW,
And I looked for a CORKSCREW
'Most everywhere.
For I went to the stand where they sold red Burgundy
("Only a dollar for a bottle of Burgundy:)
"Have you got a CORKSCREW.'cos I don't want Burgundy"
But they hadn't got a CORKSCREW
not anywhere there.
I had a dollar
And I had another dollar.
I took my dollars
To the Great Wine Fair.
I did want a CORKSCREW
Just a plain simple CORKSCREW
And I looked for CORKSCREWS
'Most everywhere.
And I went to the stand where they sold fine Claret
("Now then! Just a couple o' bucks for a jolly good Claret")
"Have you got a CORKSCREW, "cos I don't Claret"
But they hadn't got a CORKSCREW
not anywhere there.
I found another dollar A nice green dollar,
I took my three dollars To the Great Wine Fair.
So I went to the stand where they sold wine glasses ("Walk up, walk up, three dollars for a dozen."),
But they hadn't got a CORKSCREW,
not anywhere there.
My legs were tired
They were very very tired
So I didn't go down to the Great Wine Fair;
But I walked to the village
Where an old antique shop
Had hundreds of CORKSCREWS
'Most everywhere.
So I'm sorry for the people who sell red Burgundy I'm sorry for the people who sell fine Claret
I'm sorry for the people who sell wine glasses
Cos they haven't got a CORKSCREW
not anywhere there.
