FIG012 SOLD

Brass cat two finger pull with hanging ring. Excellent cut worm.



TBH006 SOLD

A pristine corkscrew with heavy 6" wide handle with silver end caps. One cap is marked STERLING 40 and <J H> (John Hasselbring, Brooklyn, New York). The crab piece is "unlocked" when turning the worm into the cork. It then engages its mate on top of the frame to extract the cork.



TBH012 SOLD

A near mint corkscrew with 6" wide handle and silver mounts marked STERLING with the < J H > trademark of John Hasselbring. One mount is engraved on the end with initials D.W.S. and the other has the date 12-25-45. Great 1945 Christmas present for D.W.S. One of the silver mounts is slightly askew but a fabulous piece. A small tusk 4" with silver mount marked STERLING 535. Excellent condition.

TBH005 SOLD

A very elegant 6 1/2" tusk handle corkscrew with silver mount marked STERLING. The mount has the initial D (? - shown upside down above also). There are round silver pieces inlays on both sides of the handle as shown in the photos above and below. The self-pulling bell with cap lifter and wire breaker is Edwin Walker's U. S. Patent 647,775 of April 17, 1900. Condition is very fine.


TBH001 SOLD

8" tusk with silver mount marked STERLING. The silver mount is a little loose. The fluted wire helix is slightly distorted at the end. Self pulling bell in fixed position.

FIG014 SOLD

Silver plated Flauder patent in excellent condition. The design patent of the then Trumbull, Connecticut resident Alfred Flauder was assigned to the Weidlich Bros. Mfg. Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The manufacturer's pattern number 905 appears on the back of the spoon handle. U. S. Design patent Number 87,658 was issued for a "Bottle Opener" on August 16, 1932. The combination bar tool is silver plated with very little plating wear. Well-marked inside the mouth of the figure are PAT. 8-16-32 U.S.A and W.B. MFG. CO.

LZT010 SOLD

Two different examples of the French Zig Zag wire wire worms. The difference is in the markings. The oval plate on both is stamped BTE. S.G.D.G. FR & ET M&M DEP. The one on the right has the additional mark MADE IN FRANCE (close-ups below).

M. Marie Leon Bart of Meuthe-et-Moselle, France was issued French patent No. 649,209 on February 17, 1928 for this Zig Zag with crown cap lifter on the upper links.

LZT009 SOLD

1932 Thomas / Universal Cutlery Corkscrew. This is Jean Thomas' September 7, 1932 French patent number 723,604. It is marked KIS-PLY PARIS at the top on one side and BREVETE DEPOSE on the other. One of the levers is marked UNIVERSAL CUTLERY CO., NY, FRANCE. Very good condition.

Wier's 1884 British Patent Corkscrew marked HEELEY & SONS MAKERS and WEIR'S PATENT 12804 25 SEPTR 1884 on one side and WEIR'S PATENT 12804 25 SEPTR 1884 on the other (see below).

It is interesting to note that British patent documents show the name as Wier and on the corkscrew it is spelled Weir.

The father of the lazy tongs corkscrew was Marshall Wier. An abridged version of his patent specification reads "The screw is attached to a centre pin of the lowest pair of cross-bars of the lazy-tongs, and the ring, which passes over the bottle neck, is hinged to the side bars, suitable stops being provided to prevent lateral motion when the corkscrew is closed. A suitable handle is hinged at the other end of the lazy-tongs."

Patented DeBouchtout Corkscrew. DEBOUCHTOUT well marked on both sides of the bottom lever. Also marked Bte S.G.D.G MARQUE ET MODELE DEPOSE FRANCE ET ETRANGER. Eyebrow handle pierced with hole for hanging. Crown cap lifters set on bottom levers.

BBL006 SOLD

Bone Handle Thomason HALF BOTTLE SIZE Corkscrew. Edward Thomason's British Patent No. 2,617 of May 7, 1802. The barrel is fine, the handle is excellent, brush missing, no patent plate, and wire worm is full and sharp. Interesting copper colored barrel. Excellent mechanical condition.
